Social Experiment Club
With isolation and loneliness feeling rampant in our society, Sharon Glassburn from Curiosity Counseling in Connecticut and I will be hosting a monthly virtual therapeutic group to discuss and implement one chapter a month of the book The Laws of Connection: The Scientific Secrets of Building a Strong Social Network, written by David Robson. It is part of our philosophy as helpers to identify and combat mental health plagues that are affecting our current society.
What We Do
Each month, we gather to practice and experiment with different aspects of social interaction. Whether you’re looking to improve conversation skills, challenge social norms, or just push yourself outside your comfort zone, this is a space for playful exploration, reflection, and accountability.
When & How We Do It
We will begin the group once we have a minimum of 5 participants with a cap at 8 and keep registration open until September 1st of 2025.
Monthly Gatherings
Every session follows a structured yet flexible format:
- Warm-Up & Check-In – Quick introductions & a low-pressure social exercise.
- Experiment of the Month – A themed challenge focused on a specific aspect of social skills (examples below!).
- Real-World Challenge – A takeaway challenge for the month to practice in daily life.
- Debrief & Accountability – Reflection on past experiences and setting goals for the next month.
Example Monthly Experiments
Each month explores a new social experiment. Examples include:
- The Art of Small Talk – Learning to start and sustain casual conversations.
- Radical Honesty Challenge – Practicing direct, clear, and open communication.
- Social Rejection Resilience – Playfully collecting “no’s” to build confidence.
- The Compliment Experiment – Giving genuine, unexpected compliments to strangers.
- Silent Socializing – Navigating social spaces without words, using body language.
- Breaking Social Norms (Kindly!) – Doing harmless but unconventional things to observe reactions and challenge discomfort.
Who is This For?
This club is for anyone in Connecticut, Louisiana or British Columbia who wants to practice social skills in a structured, supportive, and playful way. Whether you’re shy, socially curious, or just love human behavior, this is a place to learn, grow, and have fun with others.
